[제목] 한국수목원정원관리원, 산불진화교육 실시 - 한국수목원정원관리원 임직원 100명 대상 산불진화교육 실시로 산불역량 강화 - [내용] 산림청 산하 한국수목원정원관리원(이사장 심상택)은 1월 28일 임직원으로 구성된 산불진화반 100여 명을 대상으로 '산불진화 교육'을 실시했다고 밝혔다. 이번 교육은 ▲산불 발생의 개요 및 원리 ▲산불진화 전술 및 개인 진화 장비 사용법 ▲산불 현장에서의 개인 안전수칙 ▲산불 발생의 원인별 예방대책 등 이론과 실무 교육으로 마련됐다. 심상택 이사장은 “한국수목원정원관리원 산불 진화팀의 역량을 강화하고 인근 지역 산불 발생 시 적극적으로 지원하고 구성원의 전문성을 높이기 위해 힘쓰겠다”라며 “앞으로도 안전을 기반으로 한 지속적인 사회재난 예방 활동을 이어가겠다”고 전했다.

Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute Signs MOA with Botanic Gardens Conservation International

The Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute (KoAGI), led by President Sim Sang-taek under the Korea Forest Service (KFS), announced that on the 10th of this month, it signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI). This agreement aims to safeguard the conservation of plant species endangered by the climate crisis at the Baekdudaegan Global Seed Vault (BGSV) and encourage botanical gardens and arboreta worldwide to actively participate in this global conservation effort. BGCI is a network of 875 institutions across 115 countries, serving as a hub for plant conservation, research, and education. Recently, BGCI has made efforts to establish the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation 2030 (GSPC 2030) and has been continuously working on its implementation. South Korea is one of the few countries that successfully restored degraded forests into thriving woodlands within half a century. Building on this expertise, KFS and KoAGI have operated BGSV since 2018, collaborating with international partners to protect plant diversity. Since its establishment, BGSV has duplicated and preserved both domestic and international plant seeds, successfully storing approximately 6,000 species and over 280,000 accessions. To expand these efforts, KoAGI has proposed co-hosting an international symposium with BGCI and launching a multinational seed conservation project. As a result, The Global Seed Conservation Grants (GSC Grants) program, proposed by BGCI, has provided an opportunity to expand seed storage at the Baekdudaegan Global Seed Vault (BGSV). Through this program, botanical gardens and arboreta worldwide can actively participate in conservation efforts. The newly signed MOA defines the responsibilities of participants in ensuring seed duplication. Under the GSC Grants program, BGSV will receive and store seeds from more than 20 arboreta and botanical gardens annually for the next three years, with further expansion planned based on its success. President Sim Sang-taek stated, "By strengthening partnerships with international organizations, the Baekdudaegan Global Seed Vault can evolve into a leading global seed conservation facility, playing a key role in addressing the challenges of the climate crisis."
